Walk on the Wild Side to search hiding places

The Northern Neck Chapter of Virginia Master Naturalists and Belle Isle State Park will hold a Walk on the Wild Side nature hike from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. Hikers will meet at the Camp Store.

The theme will be Summer Flora and Fauna, reported Virginia Master naturalist and retired ecologist Kevin Howe.

“Summer heat and humidity affects plants and animals much like it affects us—stay somewhere that is cool, said Howe. “Belle Isle, with its diverse protected habitats of forests and wetlands, provides varied cooler places for animals to hide while reducing movements.
