West Point edges Northumberland, 4-3, for Region 1A girls soccer championship

It took 100 minutes plus two shootouts for top-ranked West Point to get by Northumberland, 4-3, in the Region 1A girls soccer championship last week.

As the regional runner-up with a 16-3-1 record, Northumberland earned a berth in this week’s Class 1 state tournament on the road against the Region B champion. West Point, with an 18-0 record as the regional champion, earned a home berth in the state playoffs.

In last Thursday’s Region A final, the Lady Indians and Lady Pointers played to a scoreless tie at the end of regulation, despite taking 16 shots on goal each.
