WHITE STONE—Town council approved three bids August 3 totaling more than $221,000 in connection with the White Stone business district revitalization project.
Town manager Patrick Frere’s reports under old business resulted in multiple action items, including the approval of a $143,125 bid by local company Franklin Mechanical Contractors Inc. for 800 feet of sidewalk improvements in the business district. According to Frere, there is only one part of the district without sidewalks, an area extending along Rappahannock Drive directly across from the Town Office (433 Rappahannock Drive), past Chesapeake Doughnut Company to Chesapeake Drive. The sidewalk would then turn down Chesapeake Drive, ending at The Lancaster Players Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive.
Frere said the management team received only one bid for the work but it was within a “couple thousand dollars of the money allowed by the grant.”
He added that Franklin Mechanical was recently awarded a bid by Aqua Virginia for waterline improvements in the same area. The company also installed….
