WHITE STONE—With the town’s business district revitalization nearing completion, the White Stone Town Council has decided to reinstate a planning commission to review zoning ordinances as they apply to the number of dwellings per parcel.
The planning commission hasn’t been an active body in White Stone for over five years. Council members will bring names to the July meeting for possible appointment.
It voted unanimously, 4-0, on June 6 to task the commission with reviewing for change the commercial C-1 zoning to allow two dwellings per parcel, bringing it in line with residential R-1 zoning. R-1 already allows for two family dwellings per parcel.
The zoning review was prompted by a request from property owners Joon and Kristy Lee, who during the public comment period inquired about the town’s requirements on square footage per dwelling. The Lees own the former movie theater building at 394 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone, which now houses retail on the first floor.
The building is “grandfathered” as one of the non-conforming structures….
