LANCASTER—William Madison Fontaine, 73, of Lancaster and Richmond passed away on June 18, 2026.
He was the son of Allen Madison Fontaine and Katharine Lee Walton Fontaine.
Madison attended Ginter Park Elementary School, Collegiate School and graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond. He received his degree from the University of Virginia.
Madison was an accomplished instrument-rated pilot, business owner and architect, who designed and built his home overlooking the Western Branch of the Corrotoman River.
Madison was also a talented musician and a gifted watercolor artist. He enjoyed traveling, sailing, snow and water skiing, cooking and watching his son race at Langley Speedway. He was an active supporter of the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation.
Madison is survived by his son, Thomas Madison (Brittany); daughter, Tara Katharine (Alec); his grandchildren, Trevor, Bayleigh, Declan and Thatcher; his life partner and love, Karen; and his devoted lemon beagle, Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother, Arthur James Fontaine.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
