As summer begins, the Northern Neck Family YMCA is preparing for its annual Bright Beginnings program, which helps children start the school year ready to learn.
Each summer, approximately 50 Lancaster County students in grades K–6 are paired with volunteer “shopping buddies” to purchase back-to-school clothing and receive backpacks filled with school supplies at no cost to their families, reported Northern Neck Family YMCA center director Terrie Suthard.
The average cost to support one child is $200. Monetary and school supply donations will be accepted at the Northern Neck Family YMCA, 39 William B. Graham Court, Kilmarnock.
To volunteer or enroll a child in the program, call Suthard at 724-5097 by July 15.
