David Smith to coach The SONNY String Quartet

The Crewe Academy for Strings welcomes Northern Neck Orchestra assistant principal cellist David Smith as the SONNY String Quartet instructor.

He will provide immersive coaching sessions over the summer at Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock and rehearse them for their community outreach events throughout the year, reported Crewe Academy for Strings director Sue Nunn. Smith also will teach the students how to arrange their favorite compositions for quartet repertoire.

Smith has a bachelor’s in cello performance and music theory from the Loyola School of Music in New Orleans, La.  Upon graduation, he toured most of the southeastern U.S. while being part of the Prytania String Quartet and the Loyola University String Orchestra.
