Board members, participants, staff and friends of the Northern Neck Family YMCA recently attended the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA annual meeting at the Marriott at City Centre, Newport News. The annual meeting celebrated the accomplishments of the YMCA during 2017.
Northern Neck Family YMCA Teen Volunteer of the Year Pleajah Thompson and Volunteer of the Year Karen Sciacchitano were both honored at the event, reported senior operations director Liz Allen.
During 2017, over $272,116 in Guardian scholarships were provided to 1,383 persons so they could experience child care, sport programs, wellness programs, aquatic programs and membership at the YMCA, said Allen.
Sciacchitano, honored for her leadership over the 2017 Festival of the Trees event, worked with over 41 volunteers to raise money in support of the Guardian scholarship program, enabling all persons, regardless of financial ability, to enjoy the programs of the YMCA, said Allen.
During the event, a special honor bestowed by the YMCA association was awarded to Douglas D. Monroe Jr., said Allen. Monroe was the recipient of the Social Responsibility Award for 2017…
