Esther F. P. Goode

LANCASTER—Esther Florence Pollard Goode, 83, of Richmond and Lancaster County, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019. Born in Richmond, she was the daughter of Henry Robinson Pollard III and Esther Nichols Pollard.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Bagwell Goode III.

She is survived by her three children, Esther Virginia Goode, Amy Elizabeth Goode and her partner Kirk O’Brien, William Bagwell Goode IV and his wife, Kelly Goode; and granddaughter Ann-Robert Venable Goode. She is also survived by her two brothers, Henry Robinson Pollard IV and William Nichols Pollard, and many nieces and nephews.

Florence graduated from Longwood University with a degree in education and taught for five years at Maybeury Elementary School. She was an active member of numerous organizations including the Historic Richmond Foundation, the volunteer board of Retreat Hospital, the Garden Club of Virginia, the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club, Historic Christ Church and the Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Florence spent many weekends and summers at her river house, Pontovue, where she hosted families and friends, waterskied, fished, sailed and planted flowers galore. Her favorite part of the day was early evening when she sat down and relaxed with Cheez-Its and a drink and watched the daylight fade over the river with her black Labs and beagles at her side.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Gardens and Greenspaces, The Collegiate School or The New Community School.
