George Mason eliminates Northumberland, 6-0, in field hockey tournament

George Mason eliminated Northumberland from postseason field hockey play last Thursday with a 6-0 home win over the Lady Indians.

The loss capped a 5-10 season for Northumberland, which advanced to the conference tournament as the #7 seed. George Mason was ranked second.

“The five wins in a row to close out September was very exciting for the girls,” said NHS coach Mark Fridenstine. “We had four losses that were decided by one goal and we took Colonial Heights to triple overtime and lost by one goal. The improvement by the girls was outstanding.”

In last week’s playoff, George Mason scored two goals in the opening five minutes and another four in the second half.
