Smith Point Sea Rescue Report

Smith Point Sea Rescue vice president Jim Bullard reported crews recently responded to the following calls for assistance:

September 3: At 9:40 a.m., the sheriff received a call from a 25-foot Parker fishing boat. The captain reported he was adrift in the mouth of the Potomac with engine failure. Rescue 3 was dispatched from Olverson’s Marina with three crewmen aboard and located the stranded boat south of Point Lookout. The crew provided the captain with fresh fuel but the engine still would not start. The crew then towed the boat 15 miles back to Krentz Marine Railway on the South Yeocomico River for repairs. Time on call, 4.5 hours.

September 5: At 1:15 p.m., the captain of a 24-foot Bayliner walkaround called the sheriff to report he was dead in the water in the Great Wicomico River off Sandy Point. Rescue 1 departed the Sea Rescue boathouse in Reedville with three crewmen aboard, motored up the Great Wicomico and quickly…
