
The excitement was palpable as guests and competing artists waited to hear the winners announced in the 2026 Art In Transit competition at a reception Friday, May 29, at the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.
The fundraiser is a cooperative effort of Bay Aging and the RAL, said Juli Schuszler. By collecting entry fees and enlisting sponsors, the two organizations raise funds for the prizes awarded and their respective programs. With their share of the funds, Bay Transit awards college scholarships to its bus drivers or their family members.
The two judges, Joyce Crown-Wilkins, a Richmond County art educator, and Randy Toy, a professional artist, printmaker, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts educator selected the winners from 37 entries. RAL executive director Stephanie Brown and Crown-Wilkins announced the winners and the judges’ comments at the reception.
First place, with a cash award of $1000, went to “Bridge Party,” an acrylic painting by Bob Casazza. The judges said the image of the seagulls perched on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge was perfect for….There's more to this story...
