
KNOXVILLE, TENN.—David Bruce Coontz, 61, passed away February 12, 2021 at his home in Knoxville, Tennessee, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
David was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and worked as an executive chef for most of his adult life. He was the owner of de’Medici’s in both Kilmarnock and Gloucester prior to moving to Knoxville. Besides cooking, he loved spending time with his family, traveling and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Margaret Coontz of Evansville, Ind.
David is survived by his wife Lisa of Knoxville. He has two children, Megan (George) Rasmussen of Irvington and Shelby (David) Malone of Mosheim, Tenn.; two step-children, Leslie Grimes of Knoxville and James Grimes of Lexington, Ky.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Hazell, Isabelle Rasmussen and Jaxon Rasmussen of Irvington and Maci Malone and Emberly Malone of Mosheim; four siblings, Bob Coontz of Columbus, Ohio, Laura (Mark) McCreight of Ft Myers, Fla., Jane (Kevin) Dugan of Evansville; Beth (Dennis) Kommer of Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews, and countless, lifelong friends.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, at Irvington Baptist Church, 53 King Carter Drive, Irvington, with a celebration of life service immediately following at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the American Cancer Society.
