Alvin Leroy “Frog” Fisher

Alvin Leroy “Frog” Fisher

WEEMS—Alvin Leroy “Frog” Fisher departed from his life on this side of the water on June 27, 2023, at Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville after weeks of painful days and nights. He was strong until the very end.

Alvin, the son of the late Theodore and Edna Fisher, was born on July 3, 1938, in Weems. Alvin’s character was built on strong family values: treat people right, make sure everyone feels welcome, help a friend if you can, and always put in a good honest day’s work.

These principles were established in the home and reinforced throughout his life in the church, school, military, business and community. He later passed them on to his own family.

At an early age, Alvin was baptized and joined Sharon Baptist Church in Weems, where the Fisher family was rooted in faith and service. He was a 1957 graduate of A.T. Wright High School in White Stone. It was during this time that he built lifelong friendships. After being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962 and serving at Fort Polk, Louisiana, Alvin knew that there was no place like home and laboring for his own community and family.

In 1964, he returned to the family business, Theodore Fisher and Sons, Inc., where he took great pride in work alongside his father, brother, nephew, cousins and others who became great friends. Together they built a thriving excavation and land construction business in Lancaster County.

While cruising in his shiny new convertible, Alvin caught the eye of his sweetheart, Junita (Cookie), and married in 1968. They had two children, Alvin (A.T.) and Paula, and a love that will live on beyond their 55 earthly years together.

Alvin loved family time. He enjoyed nothing more than being out on a boat, sitting by the water and a Sunday ride. He also took great pleasure in making his house your home. Many nights were spent in the basement with friends and family playing games, recalling stories and making new ones. And while pleasantries were always on the corner of his smiles, he took serving the community seriously.

Alvin served in leadership roles throughout his 45+ years as a member of Palestine Lodge 100. After finally parking the dump trucks and closing the business, Alvin took pride in his work at Bay Transit, driving the bus and local trolley until December 2019.

Frog’s family will remember him lovingly as a strong, dedicated and caring person and will carry his laughter, love and values throughout their lives and hearts forever.

Alvin was preceded in death by his brother, Oneil.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sadie Juanita Fisher; son, Alvin T. Fisher; daughter, Paula F. Robinson (Michael); two sisters, Victorine Brooks and Otelia Caster; nieces Denise, Francine, Bercenia, Marcia (Marc), Karla (Artemus), Jauan (Preston) and Brooke; nephews Eric and Quinton. Plus a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and brothermen.

A service was held Saturday, July 1, at Sharon Baptist Church
