HEATHSVILLE—While budget pressures have eased slightly, Northumberland supervisors are still struggling to figure out how to pay for competing capital projects for the schools, all of which are considered priorities.
At a special called meeting on Thursday, April 30, they discussed but took no action on allocating $322,401 in school reimbursements received.
Volunteer finance facilitator Karen Pica presented three options—applying the full amount to county reserves; splitting the amount among other capital requests, like buses and a well; or applying the full amount toward the new playground. The playground is estimated to cost around $460,000, according to Pica.
School superintendent Karen Leslie said a phased approach to building the playground is also possible….
