Rappahannock clips Lancaster, 3-2, in district softball tournament final

Lancaster left the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the seventh on Wednesday, May 20, as Rappahannock High pitcher Ava Price got out of the inning for a 3-2 Raider win in the Northern Neck District tournament championship.

The two teams had split games during the regular season with the Lady Devils going 17-3 as the regular season champs and the top seed in the Region 1A tournament. As the number one team in the eight-team tournament, Lancaster will host Chincoteague today, May 28, in a quarterfinal game. Rappahannock finished the season as runner up. As second seed in the region tournament, Rappahannock will host West Point in another quarterfinal.

Price earned the win for Rappahannock in the district final. The starter surrendered nine hits, struck out four and walked none.

Addie George pitched a full game for Lancaster, giving up six hits, walking one and striking out five.
