WARSAW—An early-morning accident Wednesday, July 29, in Warsaw resulted in a fatality.
At approximately 5:39 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 5000 block of Richmond Road, east of Meadowbrook Road, reported Division I public information officer Sgt. Jessica B. Shehan.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2005 Chevrolet Impala was traveling west on Richmond Road at a high rate of speed when it crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2014 Dodge Charger, said Sgt. Shehan.
The driver of the Impala, James Randolph Laws, 70, of Farnham, died at the scene.
The driver of the Charger, Jorge Tzep Lopez, sustained minor injuries and declined medical transport.
At 6:43 a.m. on Wednesday, the Virginia Department of Transportation posted a traffic alert on Facebook advising morning rush hour motorists to seek alternate routes and to follow detours. The alert indicated all lanes were closed on Richmond Road near Meadowbrook Road and traffic was being detoured onto Meadowbrook and back onto Richmond Road beyond the scene of the accident.
At 8:22 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook all lanes were open.

The crash remains under investigation, said Shehan.
