Parker will carry ceremonial mace for RCC commencement

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner will be the keynote speaker at the 46th Commencement Ceremony of Rappahannock Community College. Sen. Warner will join RCC president Dr. Elizabeth H. Crowther on stage as they celebrate the achievements of the graduates of the Class of 2018.

The commencement ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the RCC Warsaw Campus, 52, Campus Drive, Warsaw.

Each year, RCC chooses a member of the faculty to carry the mace in the commencement ceremony. On Friday, professor Robert “Bob” Parker will carry the mace.

Parker, who has worked at RCC since 2002, is beloved by many students past and present for his wry wit and excellent abilities to explain and break down complex mathematics. Through this 16-year tenure, he has amassed a huge list of awards and accolades, both from within RCC and from outside organizations.

He moved to the Northern Neck from Virginia Beach in 1996, when he started teaching math and coaching golf at Northumberland High School. Since that time, he also has become a significant force in scouting throughout the region…
