Northumberland made things happen in the sixth inning with a single, double, steal and a couple of fielder’s choice shots to regain the lead for good from Lancaster in the Northern Neck District baseball tournament semifinals last Wednesday.

The fourth-place Indians upset top seed Lancaster, 7-6, to knock the host Devils out of the tournament. Essex edged NHS, 1-0, last Friday to win the district tournament championship.

Lancaster, which went 16-2 during the regular season, still advances with a first-round bye in this week’s Region 1A tournament and will host the winner of the Mathews-Chincoteague game tomorrow, May 24, at 6 p.m. at Dream Fields.

The Red Devils have lost only three games…
