Citizens object to EMS chief’s dismissal

HEATHSVILLE—A group of Northumberland residents were joined by two county supervisors last Thursday criticizing the dismissal of emergency medical services chief Rick McClure.

The board voted 3-2 in January to hire a full-time EMS chief. Board members Thomas Tomlin, Jim Long and James Brann voted in favor of the motion. Members Ronald Jett and Richard Haynie voted against it.

Citizens were urged to attend the February meeting of the board of supervisors through a letter written by McClure which appeared in a recent issue of the Northern Neck Sentinel. McClure’s account alleges the decision to convert the position of EMS chief from part-time to full-time was motivated by board members’ personal dislike of him.
