Area businesses advised to prepare for Phase I of economic ‘reopening’

KILMARNOCK—The Commonwealth will transition to the first phase of reopening its economy beginning tomorrow morning.

The stay-at-home order issued by Gov. Ralph Northam in response to the COVID-19 virus pandemic will be slightly relaxed during Phase I of this transition, with what the governor calls a “safer-at-home” strategy.

This plan will slowly and deliberately ease some of the restrictions, but not all. We will move forward cautiously with science, data and safety,” said Gov. Northam. “While there are a few more places to go, everyone should only go there as needed and stay home as much as possible.”

The number of confirmed cases in the Commonwealth has declined over the last two weeks and hospitals are currently reporting that they have the capacity and resources to treat patients, according to Gov. Northam.
