Former Lancaster Commonwealth’s Attorney agrees to license suspension

RICHMOND—Former Lancaster County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jan C. Smith has had his license suspended by the Virginia State Bar for his actions related to an ongoing and controversial manslaughter case against a Richmond man.

On October 22, a three-judge panel accepted an agreed disposition which suspends Smith’s license for one year and a day, according to DaVida M. Davis, Clerk of the Disciplinary System for the Virginia State Bar. The suspension was effective that day and an order of suspension will be issued to the Lancaster County Circuit Court Clerk’s office.
