Lancaster supervisors propose property tax increase on vehicles

LANCASTER—Citing an overall better product that would increase economic development and property values, as well as expand telemedicine and educational opportunities countywide, Lancaster County supervisor Robert Westbrook proposed increasing the personal property tax on vehicles to fund broadband across the county.

The increase also is expected to make up for the loss in revenue if a lower land use tax evaluation is approved for forested land, and to pay for increased contributions to county employee health insurance.

In a 5-0 vote, the board approved a motion to advertise a proposed personal property tax rate on vehicles at a rate of $3.75 per $100. The current rate is $2.04 per $100. The assessment….
