Northumberland planners complete county’s first capital improvement plan

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland County planning commission at a special called meeting on Tuesday, May 4, held a public hearing on the county’s first capital improvement plan for fiscal years 2022-2026. Following the hearing, the commission unanimously recommended the plan to the board of supervisors for approval.

County planner Stuart McKenzie reminded the commission that a project’s inclusion in the plan is not a guarantee of funding. McKenzie added that two of the projects for this year—a new roof the the elementary school at $398,150 and a new roof for the school board office at $125,000— were prioritized to “protect assets” and “because if they were put off, you’re just going to end up paying more later” because of the steeply rising costs of building materials.
