LANCASTER—The Lancaster County Broadband Authority (LCBA) is focused on keeping the Lancaster community apprised of its activities to bring universal broadband to the citizens of Lancaster County, according to chairman Cassie Thompson.
As previously reported, the LCBA, in partnership with Mathews, Middlesex, Caroline counties and Atlantic Broadband (ABB), was awarded a Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) grant, said Thompson. This is a major step in the expansion of broadband in Lancaster and the region. The (LCBA) represents Lancaster County in this initiative and other broadband initiatives, she said.
An important step in the initiative is executing a formal contract with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) that administers VATI, which is helping to fund the project through a $4.2 million grant, said Thompson. Atlantic Broadband is contributing $1.5 million and the remaining $1.5 million of the $7.2 million, 130-mile project is being funded by Lancaster, Mathews, Caroline and Middlesex counties.
