Historical marker dedication slated Saturday in Deltaville

The public is invited to join Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) for the dedication of the Stingray Point Contraband Historical Marker at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17,  at 17147 General Puller Highway, Deltaville.

The marker will recognize the heroics of Alexander Franklin, David Harris, John Hunter, Miles Hunter, Peter Hunter and Samuel Hunter, six enslaved men who self -emancipated at Stingray Point on July 15, 1861, said MPAAGHS president Bessida White.
