Mathews runners kicking up the dust

In cross country, Mathews continues to dominate in regional team competition and Lancaster’s Hailey Smith continues to collect individual medalist honors. 

Smith claimed her second home win and her third straight victory in as many weeks last Wednesday, leading 23 runners across the finish line in the 3.1-mile girls race at Hills Quarter near Kilmarnock. Smith ran the race in 21:03 to win the girls division and finish eighth overall.

Cameron Stearns won his second race this season at Hills Quarter, leading the Mathews’ boys team to a team low 21 points. Lancaster was second with 44 points and Rappahannock third with 79. King & Queen and Washington & Lee did not have complete teams.
