NORFOLK—There was a sense of relief in the rotunda outside of a Norfolk courtroom last Thursday when friends and family members of Graham McCormick cried and hugged each other tightly. They’ve spent the last four and a half years seeking justice for the 31-year-old Atlanta man who died following a late-night boat ride in Lancaster County.
Moments earlier, a jury had found John Randolph “Rand” Hooper, 35, of Richmond guilty of involuntary manslaughter and failure to render aid in connection with the drowning death of his lifelong friend.
At the start of the three-day trial at the City of Norfolk Courthouse on January 18, Hooper pleaded not guilty to charges of felony homicide, aggravated manslaughter while operating a boat under the influence and failure to render aid after an accident.
