School board takes step forward for new school

KILMARNOCK—The Lancaster school board on Monday, March 14, approved guidelines that would allow the division to participate in the Public-Private Educational Facilities and Infrastructure Act, also known as PPEA.

The board also authorized a request for proposals (RFP) to begin the process of creating a new middle/high school on the recently purchased Irvington Road property at Hills Quarter. Both motions were approved by unanimous 4-0 decisions with Faith Kemp, Cindy Clarke, Joan Gravatt and Margaret Socey voting in favor. Kenya Moody was absent.

The action followed a recommendation by Jim Yatzek, vice president, service executive of MBP, a construction management consulting firm in Williamsburg. He explained that this method….
