Growing pains: Commercial zoning, truck traffic, workforce challenges

LANCASTER—Following public hearings, the Lancaster board of supervisors on Thursday, March 31, approved rezoning requests for two businesses along Irvington Road in the Pitmans Corner area, changing them from limited commercial (C2) to commercial (C1). While area residents have voiced concerns the changes would be a detriment to what they consider a residential area, the county has designated it a Primary Growth Area in the comprehensive plan.

Irvington resident Tom Chapman asked the board to deny the requests and update the C2 ordinance to allow for a special exception to the 4,000-square-foot limitation. The planning commission at the March 17 meeting discussed adding special exceptions over the 4,000-square-foot limit and for building heights over the current 24-foot limit.
