Historical marker event to celebrate The Honorable Armistead S. Nickens

A new Virginia Historical Highway Marker will be dedicated October 15 recognizing The Honorable Armistead Stokalas Nickens, who was Lancaster County’s first and only elected Black representative to the Virginia House of Delegates.

The public is invited to the marker unveiling ceremony at 11 a.m. near 621 Kamps Mill Road off Mary Ball Road between Kilmarnock and Lancaster. The commemoration will continue from noon-3 p.m. with a free community celebration on the grounds of the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society at 8346 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster.
