HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland County Circuit Court convened Tuesday, January 3, with the Hon. R. Michael McKenney presiding.
In the case of Steven T. Hensley of Callao, charged with four counts of aggravated sexual battery to a victim 13 years old or younger and two counts of sexual penetration with an object to a victim 13 years old or younger, a capias was continued to January 17.
In the case of Riley H. Sanford of Heathsville, charged with abduction by force or intimidation, a jury trial was set for February 22.
Thomas W. Newton of Reedville pleaded guilty to felony possession of Schedule I/II drugs, child abuse by disregard for life, and possession of a weapon as a violent felon. He was sentenced to five years and faces costs of $1,825. He will be placed on indefinite supervision. Additional charges of possession of Schedule I/II drugs, felony possession of a weapon or ammo, and brandishing a firearm were concluded by nolle prosequi.
