Kilmarnock council increases member pay

KILMARNOCK—The Kilmarnock mayor, council and planning commission members will receive a 100% stipend increase beginning July 1.

Administration and finance committee chairman Mike Bedell on Monday, March 20, called on council to adopt a resolution stating council members will receive $200 per regular council meetings regardless of attendance and the mayor will receive $400 per meeting for a total allocation of $19,200.

Council member Les Spivey seconded the motion. Kylie Abbott, Thomas Watson, Curtis Smith, Bedell and Spivey voted in favor of the pay raise; Rebecca Nunn voted against and the motion passed, 5-1.

Commission members will receive $100 each per meeting with no attendance criteria according to the motion, for a maximum annual total of $7,200. The commission does not necessarily meet each month….
