BREAKING NEWS: Deceased Lancaster man named as prime suspect in three cold case murders

A deceased Lancaster County man has been named as the person responsible for three homicides which occurred more than 30 years ago. Alan Wade Wilmer Sr, who died in 2017, has been positively identified through DNA evidence as the key suspect in murders in Isle of Wight County and the city of Hampton. According to Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Gellar, if Wilmer were “alive today” he would be “charged with these murders.”

David Knobling, 20, and Robin Edwards, 14, were last seen alive September 19, 1987 and Teresa Howell, 29, was last seen alive on July 1, 1989. Edwards and Knobling, long believed to be part of the Colonial Parkway Murders, were found four days later dead of gunshot wounds. Howell was located the same day of her disappearance. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

The Virginia State Police and FBI continue to examine other cold cases and any link Wilmer may have to those cases.
