Orchestra and chorale prepare for concert

The Northern Neck Orchestra, led by music director and conductor Michael Repper, and the Chesapeake Chorale, led by Dr. Cheryl Davis, will present a concert of American music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Lancaster County Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

The performance will feature a stirring arrangement of “America the Beautiful” by Carmen Dragon, poems of Robert Frost set to music by Randall Thompson, and the second symphony of Charles Ives, reported Terry Greene.

Former Poet Laureate of Virginia Carolyn Kreiter-Forunda will read the Frost poems before each is played and sung. Frost is said to have been so pleased with Thompson’s melodic and sensitive scoring that he instructed his publishers to allow no one else to orchestrate his poems, said Greene.

Tickets are $25 at the door, or northernneckorchestra.org. Students will be admitted free with online reservations.
