Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christchurch Road, Weems, invites the community to a special presentation at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, by Dr. Lonnie H. Lee on his new book, The Huguenot-Anglican Refuge in Virginia: Empire, Land, and Religion in the Rappahannock Region.
Lee’s illustrated presentation will explore the history of a Huguenot emigrant community established in eight counties along the Rappahannock River of Virginia, starting with the 1687 arrival in Lancaster County of John Bertrand, an Anglican-ordained Huguenot minister from France. Using county court records in Virginia and French Protestant records from England and France, Lee examines this Huguenot community that comprised more than 260 households, reported executive director Robert J. Teagle.
