Northumberland claims its first regional girls soccer championship

The Lady Indians are on the hunt for a state title.

Northumberland High School beat West Point, 4-1, on Thursday, May 30, to capture its first regional championship. The Indians advanced to the final of the Super Region 1A/1B tournament by edging Rappahannock County, 1-0, in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 28.

Northumberland was scheduled to face Rappahannock County again this week on Tuesday, June 4, in the Class 1 state quarterfinals. As the regional champion, the Indians earned a home berth. Both the semifinals and state championship will be at Roanoke College June 7-8.

After splitting with the Pointers during regular season play, the Indians won when it really counted last week….
