In conjunction with the Fairfield Foundation, the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews, will host “What Is It?” night, from 6-8 p.m. August 2.
The public is invited to bring in artifacts—found items that they have questions about, pottery, ceramics, arrowheads to identify—to find out additional information about their belongings. There is no charge for this event.
Antiquities authority William “Bill” Pittman, formerly curator of archaeological collections at Colonial Williamsburg, now retired and affiliated with the Fairfield Foundation will be a special guest.
The museum has enjoyed hosting this event in past years and is pleased to bring it back this year, said president Tom Robinson.
“What we’ve found from experience, is that some of the objects are very difficult to identify,” said Robinson. “If we can’t identify the object that night, we will work with the owner to determine its provenance.”
