
WEEMS—Mary P. Amrhein Ritz, 93, of Weems, formerly of Hollidaysburg, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 13, at her granddaughter’s home in Weems. She was born in Altoona, Pa., on March 25, 1931, the daughter of the late Michael and Lola (White) Amrhein.
Mary married Gerald P. “Jerry” Ritz on April 26, 1950; he preceded her in death on March 6, 2002.
Mary was preceded in death by her three brothers, John, J. Merl and Samuel; her son, Tommy Ritz; and son-in-law, Mark Monge.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Rev. Kathleen Monge of Richmond and Janet Mazur (William) of Fulshear, Texas; six grandchildren, Christine Mazur, Jennifer Mazur-Kramb (Jason), Michelle Mazur-Armstrong (Jeremy), Dr. Patricia Monge-Meberg (Keith), Michael Monge (Keisha) and Kay Monge-Collier (Andrew); and nine great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Alexis, Nathan, Phillip, Aiden, Maddock, Allison, James and Cassandra.
She was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a mother and homemaker as well as active in her church and community. Mary retired as a seamstress and enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking that included baking and decorating many wedding cakes for family and friends.
Friends were received from 10-11 a.m., Monday, August 19, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16602, where a funeral service immediately followed at 11 a.m. in the Stevens Memorial Chapel with pastor Eli Hess presiding. A private interment was held at Rosehill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 24, at Living Waters Lutheran Church, Weems, with pastor Bruce Burslie presiding.
The family is grateful to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury home care services of Lancaster, especially Karen, Patricia and Yvette for their loving care over the past four years.
