NORTH CHESTERFIELD—On October 29, 2024, William Carl Benson, 66, of North Chesterfield, formerly of Kilmarnock, was reunited with his parents, Raymond and Iva Benson; sister, Diane Burris; niece, Tammy Jett; brother-in-law, James Gordon; friend and brother-in-law, Walter “George” Nott Jr.; and special aunt, Ruby Abbott.
Billy was born on October 1, 1958, in Ypsilanti, Mich., and was a fan of all things Michigan.
He had an infectious laugh and could get anyone around him laughing before they even knew what was funny. He worked hard and was committed to being a Master Electrician. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and mentored many. He felt a sense of pride when he saw those people succeed. He never lacked in knowledge nor energy and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Billy leaves behind his devoted wife, Elsa, who helped him every step of the way through life, his fight against cancer and in death. Also, his children whom he was so proud of, Ray (Jen), Jeff (Katelyn) and Stephanie Benson; the stepchildren he loved and considered his own, Ricardo Besil (Tennille), Nadya Serrano (Omar) and Carlos Besil (Sara). Those fortunate enough to call him Grandpa, Teagan Benson, Allison Benson and Ruby Belote. We also cannot forget his 11 other grandchildren, who he too was especially close to. He will also be missed by his siblings, Raymond “Butch” Benson Jr., Linda Gordon, Rebecca “Beky” Nott and too many nieces, nephews and cousins to count.
As time passed on for Billy, he understood more than ever the importance of family. In lieu of flowers, we would like for everyone to spend some extra time with their loved ones in his honor.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 9, at Kilmarnock United Methodist Church, 39 East Church Street, Kilmarnock. Visitation with family will occur one hour beforehand. Interment will follow at White Stone Methodist Church.
