Lancaster boys claim state indoor track championship; LHS girls place fourth

Draper Washington celebrated his 10th anniversary as coach of the Lancaster High School indoor track and field team by leading the boys team to its first Class 1 state championship Thursday, March 6, at Liberty University.

Washington collected his fourth state title at LHS. He’s won three Class 1 outdoor track and field championships.

Since Lancaster started competing in indoor track 10 years ago, both the regional and state meets have been a combined Class 1/2 event. They split the Region A meet into 1A and 2A this year and Lancaster claimed both the girls and boys trophies two weeks ago.

The LHS boys team went on to pick up a second trophy in as many weeks when they edged runner-up Galileo by two for the state crown.
