Essex scored what proved to be two crucial runs in the top of the seventh and fended off a last at-bat rally by the Red Devils on Wednesday, May 7, to edge host Lancaster by a run, 13-12, in varsity softball.

Malajiah Carey won the battle on the mound, going 6.1 innings with two strike outs and six hits allowed for the win. Carey walked 10 batters. Tai’Leah Cowles came to the circle to close for the Trojans.
Braelyn Johnson went 6.2 innings for LHS. She walked one batter, struck out eight and gave up 15 hits.
