Essex scored in all but one inning and collected 10 hits in a 7-3 win over Lancaster in varsity baseball on Tuesday, May 20. The make-up game capped regular season play for both teams.
The Red Devils head into postseason play with a 12-8 record in fifth place in Region 1A standings and will travel to Mathews today, May 29, to face the fourth ranked Blue Devils in a tournament quarterfinal. Essex finished in third and will host sixth-place Middlesex. Rappahannock wrapped up the year in first place and will host eighth-place West Point while second-ranked Northumberland hosted seventh-place Chincoteague. Tournament play continues next week at the higher seeds.
