Motorists be warned, White Stone council focusing on speeding

WHITE STONE—Traffic safety was at the forefront of discussion at the White Stone Town Council meeting on Thursday, August 7. Speeding and intersection concerns were both highlighted during committee reports and council comments.

Councilman James “Jimmy” Smith said during his public safety and patrol committee report the electronic speed limit reader recently placed on Chesapeake Drive didn’t indicate a great deal of excessive speeding on that road.

The average speed was 34 miles per hour in the 25 miles per hour zone, said Smith.

However, council members agreed they field lots of resident complaints about speeding within town limits.

“I don’t know what the answer is for the speeding in White Stone but it’s terrible,” said councilman Charles Brocklebank. He said drivers continually speed by his home on Chesapeake Drive.

Town manager Patrick Frere questioned whether the 25 miles per hour sign on Chesapeake Drive is clearly visible.

Councilwoman Kathryn “Scotty” Roop said she has had several citizens ask her how the town could get a “leading turn arrow” at the four-way….
