Native plants

The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will meet at noon today, November 20, at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

Sam Dutilly will present the Flora of Fones Cliffs. The chapter also will elect officers.

Holiday play

The Westmoreland Players, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao, will present “It’s a Wonderful Life” by James Rodgers. Shows will be staged at 7:30 p.m. November 21, 22, 28, 29 and December 5, and 3 p.m. November 23, 30 and December 6 and 7.

Admission is by season subscription, or individual tickets. Opening night tickets are $45, or $32 for students. Other show tickets are $30, or $17 for students. Season and individual show tickets are available at westmorelandplayers.org/tickets, or 529-9345.

History gala

The Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society will present Northern Neck History on the Half-Shell from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, November 22, at Ingleside Vineyards, 5872 Leedstown Road, Oak Grove. The gala will offer oysters, beef brisket, fried chicken, side dishes, music by the Tylor Nichols Band, raffles and a silent auction.

Island holiday

Gwynn’s Island Museum and Civic Center, 1775 Old Ferry Road, Gwynn, will host Christmas Comes to Gwynn’s Island from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, November 22.

The free family event will offer music, crafts, wreath raffles, ornaments, homemade treats, hot cocoa and cider. There will be opportunities to write letters and take photos with Santa.

Christmas show

Kilmarnock Museum will sponsor a bus trip to the Old Dominion Barn Dance Christmas Show December 13, featuring Ronnie McDowell. The bus will depart from Chesapeake Commons in Kilmarnock at 11:30 a.m. The $140 fee covers roundtrip fare, show tickets and snacks on the bus.

The bus will stop for dinner at Nick’s Spaghetti and Steak House in Shacklefords, buy-you-own. For tickets, call Mary Brent, 238-8738, or Carroll Lee Ashburn, 296-0930.

Angel Tree

The Rivah’s “Local Angel Tree Project” is underway. The public is urged to pick up an angel in need from The Rivah, 49 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. Each name on the Angel Tree will have a list of needed or desired items.

Items can then be delivered to The Rivah by December 18. Use gift bags and attach the angel from the tree onto the bag for ease of delivering. Commonly needed items include snacks, blankets, socks, gloves, hats, scarves, toiletries, washcloths, toys, soccer ball, basketball, clothing, shoes and coats.

Christmas Town

Palestine Lodge #100, 1434 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock, will host Christmas Town at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 7, for ages 1-14. The free event will include music, games, hot chocolate, refreshments, toys, purchased photos with Santa and The Grinch.

Rotary meetings

The Northern Neck Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. Those interested in the speaker topics or Rotary are welcome.
