Lightning arrester module incident raises concerns

HEATHSVILLE—After a piece of Northern Neck Electric Cooperative (NNEC) equipment caused a minor brush fire off of Crawfords Corner, homeowner Bailey Loving spoke at the March 26 meeting of the Lancaster County Board of Supervisors about the issue.

He expressed concern about the “faulty lightning arrester module” that was the cause of the fire. According to Loving, “that particular lightning arrester was incredibly old. It was a ceramic model at least 30 years old that had been up there for quite some time. There was no lightning on Sunday afternoon (March 22) when this model detonated.
