St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6807 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will offer a special Spring Celtic Service at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 19. The Rev. David Jutsum will provide the reflection.
“The theme of hope is particularly appropriate at this time since Celtic belief in hope is deeply rooted in the cycles of nature, especially in the transition from the dark winter solstice to the light of spring,” said coordinator Phyllis Jones.
The Celtic service combines evocative Irish and Scottish traditional music with reflective readings and prayers. Musicians will include Laura Rowe, who plays various flutes; Dr. Cheryl Davis on piano and Irish harp; and the Rev. Kevin Crowder, on violin.
The inspiration for this service comes from the ancient Celtic cultural beginnings in the British Isles and other parts of western Europe. “The emphasis is in finding divine presence in everyday life and focusing on the goodness of creation,” said Jones. She drew from these traditions in selecting the readings.
