Lancaster pulled off a David-conquered-Goliath kind of win this week, upsetting a perennial Northern Neck District and Region A powerhouse in varsity soccer.

“We beat Rappahannock and at Rappahannock,” said an elated LHS coach Rob Pittman following the Red Devils win, 1-0, over the Raiders on Monday, April 13.

“We haven’t beat Rappahannock in like 20 years, so that was a big win for us,” said Pittman. “Rappahannock is never down. Every year when I think it’s a transition year for them, it’s not.”

After losing its first two matches to larger school divisions the Devils are riding a three-game wining streak for a 3-2 record after beating Rappahannock County and Rappahannock over the last week.

“There was a method to the madness,” said Pittman. “We’ve been working on stamina and speed and playing those bigger teams conditioned our brains to move faster.

“This year we’re focusing on technique, conditioning and heart and this team is all effort and all heart,” he added. “I’m looking forward to what this season has in store for us.”
