
WARSAW—When Derwin Booker Jr. was elected to the Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District (NNSWCD) board of directors, iPods were brand new, cell phones flipped open and “liking” something had nothing to do with social media.
Much has changed since 2002 when Booker took a seat to represent Lancaster County. He joined the ranks of Virginia’s only elected officials who serve for no compensation, reported NNSWCD education/outreach specialist Kathleen D. Watson. In 2012, Booker took the reins as chairman of the District board, making an even bigger commitment to its mission for the next eight years.
