HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland emergency services chief Chris Bailey on Thursday, July 9, reported drought conditions within the county to the board of supervisors.
“As of the last release from the drought management task force that’s combined with DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) and VDEM (Virginia Department of Emergency Management) we’re listed in the severe drought category,” said Bailey. “We’ve had some beneficial rainfall, but we remain in that same drought status. Ultimately, 10 inches of rain is what we’re going to need over a 30-day period to get out of the drought that we’re in.”
The task force is not recommending any action now, but are monitoring it on a daily basis….
